Wife of Carter County Judge Executive Dies in Single-Car Accident

Matthew Troutman Nov. 17, 2022

On November 16, 2022, 74-year-old wife of Carter County Judge Executive dies as a result of a single-vehicle accident in Rowan County Kentucky. Carter County Executive Mile Malone had to be extracted from the vehicle and flown to UK Medical Center for medical treatment. Currently, over 600 people have died as a result of motor vehicle accidents in Kentucky in 2022. A grim reminder that we should never take for granted the use of an automobile and give our complete attention to operating the vehicle in a safe manner.

Auto Accidents can be devastating!

Over 700 people die in Kentucky car, truck and motorcycle accidents every year. This is obviously devastating to the people killed, but it is also devastating to the families left behind. In the Rowan county accident above, Mrs. Carter lost her life and her husband must live the rest of his life without his wife and, if he caused this single-car accident, he will bear the burden of guilt in causing his wife's death. Devastation is the best word to describe what has happened in this accident.

Although death is the ultimate price to pay in a motor vehicle accident, many are not killed but left with life altering physical injuries. In addition to the physical injuries, accident victim are left with the psychological injury as well. A lot of accidents the victims see their lives vanishing before them even though they ultimately survive. This is a memory that they will never out live.

Money is a poor substitute for life long pain and suffering

One of the most challenging aspects of resolving a personal injury claim is that money is a poor substitute for pain and suffering. I have not met many clients who believe the money they received makes up for the pain and suffering they have experienced and will experience. One of the most difficult conversations I have with many of my auto accident victim clients is that they are entitled to reasonable compensation for their injuries and that is determined by what a jury would award if the claim was presented to them. If a client believes that no amount of money will compensate for their injuries, then they will have difficulty accepting any amount offered.

Money is perhaps most inadequate when the victim has lost their lives. Although, it may be easier for the family, who represents the estate, to accept an amount for the life of their loved one because it is not their life that has been lost.
